About

I am a textile and mixed media artist who has a background in painting.  I  recently completed an extended textile art course from 2014 to 2016 which gave me the foundation to develop my practice in this area.  However, over the years I have explored lots of creative arts such as ceramics, art journaling and the more traditional fields of embroidery which have all given me different skills to help influence my work.

I am deeply interested in synthesis – the bringing together of materials and ideas to create something new.  This is what drives me and is the reason for developing my art-making.   There are so many possibilities.   I have always loved paper from being a small child and continue to use a lot in my work, combining it with fabrics, threads and other things.

My inspiration often comes from nature.  I live in West Yorkshire looking over to the Pennines, and the landscape is both interesting and ever-changing.  However, I am drawn to the smaller things around me.  A camera is a constant companion with which to record and remember that which doesn’t find its way back to my studio!

I have displayed work as part of a group at the NEC, Birmingham in 2015 and 2016, and have been a demonstrator for ‘Stitching, Sewing and Hobbycrafts’ ICHF show in Manchester 2017.

I am also the founder member of ‘Hillstone Fibre Arts’ who will be having their first exhibition at Harrogate in May 2017.

I have had a couple of articles published in ‘threads.In-fusion’ e-mag and been interviewed for a creative magazine blog.  I have recently self-published a small book about how to think through the different stages of creativity using examples from my own work.  I am currently looking to make it available as an eBook.

I do hope you enjoy the blog – I have been writing for three years now and it has grown significantly over that time.  I do try to keep a somewhat humorous perspective on life as I think we all need a bit of that, but it is also about sharing my love of making with you.

I’d be very interested in reading your book and/or attending any workshops you might be putting on.
